El Limonar International School Murcia is set in 63.000 m² of grounds in the Urbanisation Colonia Buenavista. The site caters for pupils from 3 – 18 years, from Early Years in our new building, through to Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.
The school comprises six buildings: four for teaching, one for administration and a new multi-purpose examination and assembly hall. The teaching buildings house bright, spacious classrooms, IT suites, Science laboratories and Drama, Art and Music rooms. Information technology plays an important role inside the classrooms, all being equipped with interactive whiteboards and computers which are continually updated to ensure the most modern software is available. WiFi throughout the school allows for teachers and students to make regular use of class sets of tablets (Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form) and iPads (Early Years).
Outside there are magnificent sports facilities: tennis and paddle-tennis courts, a 25m swimming pool, sports fields and playgrounds. These installations allow our pupils to train for official competitions and to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities.
The kitchen and main dining room are located in one of the teaching buildings, and dining is organised in several sittings depending on age and year group. A 3-course meal is cooked every day by our own catering staff. The menu is supervised by the Senior Leadership Team and is based on the Mediterranean diet, although regional and international specialities are included. We cater for any special dietary needs required for medical reasons.
New Early Years & Key Stage 1 Facilities
January 2015 saw the completion and inauguration of new school facilities: as well as a new multi-purpose examination and assembly hall, we now have a purpose-built state-of-the-art building for our Early Years and KS1 students (3 – 6 year olds) that unquestionably represents the vanguard of educational opportunities for young learners in the Murcian community.
The expansion of El Limonar International School Murcia is an example of space optimisation. The new Early Years building provides the best educational facilities for our students: 6 new interconnecting classrooms with adjoining toilet facilities; a multi-purpose room for motor skills, Drama and Music; support and ICT rooms especially designed for young children; Early Years dining-room. Classrooms are equipped with interactive white boards, projectors and iPads to support the learning of new technologies. The facilities also include play areas for outdoor activities which are an essential part of the British curriculum. These include: a vegetable garden, a tricycle circuit, a water game area and a spacious area specially designed to develop students’ gross motor skills.
In order to facilitate access and movement around the building for our youngest pupils, specially designed ramps have been included to make it easier for children to move up to the first floor. This is a school without stairs allowing our youngest pupils to move with ease from indoors to outdoors, and from one floor to another.
In line with our “Green School” philosophy, the new buildings comply with the highest energy efficiency and sustainability requirements and include solar heating systems, solar cells for lighting, LED lighting, through-flow ventilation systems and solar-thermal protection.
