From Year 3 through to Year 13 (2º Primaria – 2º Bachillerato) students at El Limonar International School Murcia are offered the possibility of taking part in residential trips of differing duration together with their class tutors and other members of school staff. These educational residential trips allow our students to develop their social skills at the same time as contributing to their personal autonomy and building group dynamics. All residential trips include return transport to and from school as well as full board and accommodation. Our current programme of residential trips is as follows:
A two-day residential at a local Farm School in Valladolises (Murcia) which normally takes place in May. Pupils experience the excitement of what is, for many, their first night away from home, surrounded by their class mates and accompanied and supervised throughout their stay by their class tutors and other members of school staff. Activities include tending to animals, learning about nature and the world around us, and experiencing life on a farm first-hand.
A three-day multi-adventure residential in La Loma (Elche), taking place in May or June. Activities include zip-line, archery and climbing as well as workshops related to caring for farm animals, team games and sports. All activities are adapted to the pupils’ age, and specialist monitors and school staff are on duty 24 hours a day.
A three-day water sports residential in Los Urrutias on the Mar Menor (Murcia) which is offered in the month of June. This trip allows our students the possibility to take beginners’ water sports courses in: sailing, canoeing, windsurf and paddle-surf. Additional group sports take place on the beach, and evening activities include dance events and gymkhanas. Students are supervised throughout their stay by their tutors and other school staff, assisted by specialist monitors for all water sports activities.
A three-day ski trip to Sierra Nevada (Granada), offered in January or February each year. Before arriving at the Sierra Nevada ski resort, students visit the Science museum and Planetarium in Granada. This residential includes a 2 day skiing course, comprising daily sessions of 5 hours skiing tuition, with pupils being grouped by ability. Pupils are supervised by school staff throughout their stay with specialist ski instructors and extra-curricular activities monitors leading all activities.
A seven-day residential in England offered at the end of the second or beginning of the third term. Students spend an action-packed week visiting places of historical, cultural and scientific interest, such as Stonehenge, Exeter, Bath or Bristol, Cheddar, Morwellham Quay, Kents Cavern and Becky Falls. Accompanied throughout the trip by school staff, this residential allows our students full immersion into the English culture, and the chance to fully employ their spoken English throughout the week-long stay.
Year 10 – Year 13
Depending on their IGCSE and A-Level course requirements, El Limonar International School Murcia students take part in different compulsory residential trips to complement their studies inside the classroom. This programme currently comprises trips within Spain (e.g. Y11 Geography and Y13 Biology field trips to Gredos (Ávila) and Y10 & Y11 sports trips as part of the IGCSE PE course) as well as residential trips further afield e.g. Y12 Drama trip to London.
