School History

Our History

El Limonar International School began its life in 1990 in La Alberca, with a total of 46 pupils aged 2, 3 and 4, all of whom are currently working and developing their successful careers.

As the school roll grew, our original facilities became too small for the numbers of pupils and so, in 1994, after months of searching and thinking, planning and building, we opened the first buildings at the El Palmar site.

As time swiftly moved on, and we saw our children and pupils grow, the school consolidated and enriched its educational programme at the same speed. The school facilities continued to expand in order to cater for the different needs of pupils aged 3 – 18.

In 2008 El Limonar International School Murcia was sold to Cognita, the world’s largest private education group based in the UK with over 60 schools in England, Wales, Spain, Asia and Latin America.

In 2015 the development process reached the new height of opening a purpose-built Early Years and Key Stage 1 teaching facility, and all El Limonar International School Murcia teaching was consolidated onto the El Palmar site to the south of the city.

In September, the school was admitted to COBIS (Council of British International Schools). This Council represents over 200 schools worldwide and provides excellent opportunities for colleagues to network, and offers professional development support for school staff.

ELIS Murcia purchases a 15,000 square metres plot in the prestigious Montevida development (Grupo Fuertes) to build new modern educational facilities for Secondary and Sixth Form students.
