A moving and inspiring Sixth Form celebration assembly

Yesterday our Montevida campus theatre hosted an unforgettable assembly for our older students. After an introduction by our Head of Upper School, Jon Wayth, our Science Teacher & Work Experience Coordinator, Aurora Brox, recognised the mature approach of our Year 11 and Sixth Form students on their work experience last year, followed by Camilla Marchant, Drama Teacher, and Kirsty Hallam, English Teacher, who announced the cast for Mamma Mia, this year’s Christmas performance, and the students who obtained their C1 English certificate, respectively.

It was then turn of Carmen Julia Martínez, Lower School Teacher and GBWD Coordinator, who thanked all the students who helped lead in our Global Be Well Day activities back in September. What she did not know is that the school had a very special surprise for her: our Head of Sixth Form, Miranda Hopkins, was thrilled to announce Carmen Julia is our Alumnus of the Year 2021-22 and gave her a lemon tree in recognition of her embodiment of ELIS values. This celebration even counted on the presence of some of our former students, Carmen Julia’s classmates, who wanted to join us for this special moment.

This inspiring assembly ended with the most significant ELIS distinction of the year: the Dux Litterarum or the student with the best performance in the EvAU-A Level final exams. Last year two students obtained the unbeatable mark of 14 out of 14: Pelayo López, introduced by our Technical Director, Toni Marín, who sent us a video for the occasion since he is away at university, and Ana Moyano, who was able to attend this celebration with her mother, our teacher Yanalie Stevens, and her father.

A very intense celebration full of emotion and inspiration for the younger generations of limoncitos!
