ELIS Murcia hosts the Cognita School Improvement Network meeting

Last Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 October ELIS Murcia’s new campus in Montevida has hosted the first Cognita School Improvement Network (SIN) meeting of the current year. SIN meetings allow company and school leaders to meet and discuss educational and professional priorities for the year ahead.

Visitors included the new Cognita CEO, Frank Maassen; Global Director of Education, Fidelma Murphy; Managing Director of Cognita Spain and Italy, Germà Rigau and Principals/Heads from all the Cognita Spain and Italy schools, among others.

Day one of this two-day meeting started with a welcome from our Principal, Vanessa Grimward, followed by sessions on a variety of relevant topics such as admissions, marketing, cybersecurity, or staff training. Two presentations by ELIS Murcia Year 13 students delighted everyone thanks to their focus on environmental sustainability and helping others less fortunate than us. Of course, there was also time for student-led tours through our new Upper School campus as everyone was keen to learn more about one of the most innovative Cognita schools in the world.

The second day began with an introduction by our former Executive Principal, Chris Eversden, now Assistant Director of Education for Cognita Spain. The day continued with the participation of two prestigious external speakers: Dr Sam Sims, whose presentation was about instructional coaching and Ben Walden, better known as Contender Charlie, who offered two workshops on leadership both for the SIN attendees and for our Sixth Form students.

A very useful two-day meeting which allowed our schools to benefit from each other’s best practices and to face future challenges together with confidence.
