El Limonar International School Villamartín follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales for subjects taught in English. Until the end of Secondary, Year 11, pupils study 80% of their day in English and the remaining 20% in Spanish. In Years 7, 8 and 9 a third language is also compulsory (French or Chinese; and German in Year 7).
During Year 10 and Year 11 all pupils study towards IGCSEs and follow the compulsory programme in Spanish as marked by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
Pupils study towards 10 IGCSEs from: English, English Literature, Spanish, French or Chinese or Drama, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Double Award Science, IT, PE or Music or Art. In addition, pupils can choose to study IGCSE Geography or IGCSE History or they can opt to study Geography/History in Spanish.
At the end of Year 11 pupils may take their IGCSEs and successful students receive a Statement of Studies, converted into the Graduate in Secondary Education Certificate (El Certificado de Graduado en Educación Secundaria). To qualify for this certificate, in Year 11 a student must 1) have passed Spanish and Historia/Geografía 2) have achieved an average of a pass in all other subjects and 3) provide evidence of having successfully completed all Secondary years of schooling.
The school is an approved examining centre for CIE (Cambridge International Examinations), Edexcel and AQA for IGCSE and A Levels.
